I believe that race issues in Reavis are fairly non existent compared to the issues in Odessa. However, it is still a problem. At reavis, the race issues I have witnessed are mosltly just rude remarks from student to student. I have never seen a coach or teacher treat a studen unfairly, but I have heard stories.
I agree. All 4 years if being here it seems that everyone gets treated the sane. Well some teachers do have favorites but I don't think it has anything to do with their race. But I have seen the Hispanic lunch ladies being nicer to the Hispanic students! Maybe that's just me though. But overall I don't think race is an issue at reavis. Nothing like Odessa.
Many of us have heard our share of stories about teachers, and most of the time they are started by students who think they are funny. I see your point Amber, but it could also mean that that specific lunch lady is comfortable around other Hispanic students because they have that certain trait in common. Many people feel better when they are around things that they are familiar with and know well.
I would have to agree with her on that for the facts of like Reavis is a very diverse school we have a big mix of kids that go here and I have never really seen full on racism at Reavis so i would say that we are a fairly open school in the way that everyone is pretty much treated as equals and judged more on their actions
I agree with Chanel because most students just talk a bunch of trash to each other just to be cool and impress their friends.no teacher or coach would ever talk racsist or nomsence to a student. Odessa was a totally different city because it was back in the past and every white was somewhat racist to blacks
I agree with belal with the fact that Odessa was a very different place then burbank. However, I disagree about kids talking trash just to try and be cool with other people. No one likes a racist person besides other racist people.
I disagree with Belal and agree with Julian. If people feel the need to act a certain way or say certain things around their so called "friends" so that they can be considered "cool", then they certainly need to reevaluate they people they associate themselves with. All you need to do is be you and if someone doesn't like you for who you are, then they don't deserve to be your friend.
I also disagree with amber because all lunch ladies treat everyone the same. Honestly I do approve tht some treat students different like for example, football players, teachers have their favorite players and that's totally fine with me, but personally i say between Burbank and Odessa race defining is unrealized and exhaled in Odesa like a normal talk but people take it serious when talking about their race and some people just don't care and are to scared to defend themselves.
It is natural for someone of a race to act more comfortable around someone who is the same race. I do not necessarily think hat is racism. Like with the lunch ladies, it is natural, not them being racists.
I also don't think kids act racist to each other to feel cool. I believe it is more becaue they think it is OK. Whether it is from their parents or their surroundings as they grew up, they think it normal to act racist or prejudiced.
I agree with chanel. People don't act racist for a dumb reason like trying to be cool. Some people just act racist because those are the people they surround themselves with and they think it is ok.
There aren't really any race issues at reavis. It is a diverse school with a lot of different nationalities. I have never seen an athlete treated badly or differently just because of there race. Coaches only pick on the ones who are lazy or have certain bad habits it has nothing to do with race.
Racism has never really been an issue at Reavis and I don't think that there ever will be. As previously mentioned by Chanel, racial remarks are most commonly said by students to other students. Burbank and Odessa are two completely different places and they are also being analyzed at two completely different times. Back then, using that kind of language towards another race was seen as "normal" and no one thought much of it. It was also seen everywhere and not just in Odessa.
actually it's how the children of the parents shows their real attitude towards race.also I think as the children grow up they have to realize that it's about time to respect each other and learn that being racist is very personal to people and people can get very angery with you
