  1. it was hard to see hank just fall on the floor after that dunk and everyone just looking at him helplessly it was really sad how someone can die that fast.

    1. I agree that this is sad. It’s probably better to die fast... However, I want to die when I'm old because I would prefer to fade away and live life to the fullest past its peak. You get more out of life the longer you live.

    2. Yeah that's gotta be the worst for the family though because everyone is just staring while they sit around there dead family member

    3. I agree with you 100% to see a player like Hank who had the potential to be a great player I think in the NBA.

    4. That had to be very hard for Hanks family and also his teams. Hank was a big part of his team and for him just to die that fast infront of them must have been very hard.

    5. I agree with a little bit of everyone statement. Hank was an amazing basketball player but we will never know how great he would of done in the NBA.

  2. Hank Gathers's team overcame some serious adversity. It's really astonishing how they went as far as they did. They could have just given up but remembering Hank was what drove them to face Michigan.

    1. I think that when Hank passed away they wanted to honor him by doing their best. Even though they didn't win, that motivation to honor Hank is what pushed them to do better.

    2. This is very true either way i think there team was good enough to go all the way, but to do it without Hank was fantastic. I believe they would have won the finals if Hank was still there with them.

    3. I agree even after the death of Hank the team still kept playing and almost made it to the chapionship.

  3. When Bo shot that free throw with his left hand for hank I got the chills. Something like that is extremely moving and respectful.

    1. I also liked that part as well because everyone knew it was the right thing to do and to top it off he made the free throw.

    2. That definitely was my favorite part of the movie. It was Bo's way of keeping hank alive and his memory alive for everyone. I agree with you guys completely about that moment.

    3. That was a great way to honor his bestfriend. The crowd loved it and im sure Hank was there with them when they pulled through that game.

    4. I completely agree with you. I don't think there couldn't been any better way of showing their respect and sorrow.

  4. I think the style of basketball that the coach had them play was crazy and for them it work, because of all the hard work they had to put in to it.

    1. I liked watching them play through the whole 30 for 30. Simply because of how fast the ball would move around the court.

    2. That style of playing had to have been really hard but in the end it worked out for them so it was pretty cool.

    3. I liked the way they played. It was a sucess with the right type of people.

    4. I agree with you. I went to the dunes once and just tried running up a hill. My friend and I were just messing around, but we were exhausted after two minutes. I can't imagine having a practice involving that. That coach was a real great coach, and knew how to get what he wanted.

  5. It was really tough to watch Hank fall to the ground. I thought that was the really sad part of the whole entire movie. I didn't like that the whole movie was building suspense to that point. It just made the pain worse.

    1. I thought this part was really sad too. It would have been a even better story if hank lived or at least lived longer. The only person to blame for not taking care of his heart condition is hank. However, he went out doing what he loved to do. So I could understand why he would put himself at that kind of risk.

    2. That part definitely was sad when he fell. I disagree about the suspense the movie builds about that though. I think the movie needed it because that's how suspenseful his life really was, people knew it was going to happen he got lucky so many times before but eventually his luck will run out.

    3. I agree with all of you when that happened my mouth just dropped because its a really sad way to die.

    4. It had to be extremely hard for everyone to see the 'hero from the hood' collapsed on the basket ball court

  6. Having to watch Hank fall was sad because he was a great player with talent and who had a really good future ahead of him.

    1. It is really sad when great people pass away. I just wished that he would have stayed on the medicine to be alive until they figured out a better solution to his heart.

  7. I agree with barbush I do understand why hank did keep playing even after he knew what the risk was. It was the sport he loved to play and he was great at it. It wasn't fair for him to have a heart problem so why accept it and not play. When something isn't fair you shouldn't have to lessen yourself. I believe I would push myself to if it was something I loved to do. It's a risk but might as well live happily and not negative and hateful over having to quit. He had talent so he deserved to use it for himself and what he thought was right.

  8. It was sad how Hank just collapsed on that court in the middle of the game. He had so much potential in basketball that it would become his career. Even tho he died in such a young age, people will remember his as a champion especially his fans.

  9. It was all so fast, a blink of an eye how Hank just out of the blue died of a young age at the peak of his potential and goals. He would have been the next Jordan in my opinion. Truly sad story about Hank Gathers.

  10. Muhammad Ali was a strong fighter, he looked like the spotlight of everyone even though he was beat by Larry. Larry was more of a shadow of Ali. People didnt see him as a spotlight of boxing as Ali was.

    1. yea it kind of hard to follow a legend like him. its kind of sad that people didnt really aperciate all of his hard work because he in the shadow of ali.

    2. Ali was also a very polarizing and influential figure in the 1960's. Larry Holmes, though an amazing fighter, couldn't live up to Ali's iconic status in the world. Ali shocked the world in his prime, and for some, Holmes destroyed it when he won.

  11. I just think that it was kind of shocking the way he died. He died during the game in front of family, friends, & fans. Although, one cannot determine that he would be an All-Star in the NBA. Its something that goes unknown. He died when he was at his peak, & thats why he is greatly remembered.

  12. I think that the Hank Gathers story was very sad especially the way he died. it was so fast and he died in front of his family and friends. Although its sad how he died and no one knew or could tell what his future would be he was a great player and he will always be remembered that way.

  13. Both 30 for 30's were very sad. It was sad that how hank died right when he was at his peak. Ali's was also sad because he died a very slow death. although they will always be remembered young i would rather die old and have lived my life than die young.

    1. I agree they should have just retired when it was the right moment to quit and that was when their accident happened.

  14. I feel very bad for Muhammad Ali, he was a broken down man and yet he still continued to fight. He should have retired long ago because he didn't deserve that beating.

    1. I agree with you Isaiah. I feel that he should've retired a while ago, therefore, he wouldn't have taken such a beating in the ring. Fans were shocked to just see Ali standing there and taking blows to the face and body.

    2. I agree with both of you. It was a very sad feeling. To tell you the truth, I believe that it would have been better for him to die at a younger age then when he did die. He wouldn't have to suffer all that pain otherwise.

    3. I agree to a certain point. Yes, Ali should have retired. But to say he didn't deserve that beating would negate his role as a fighter. HE chose to fight, despite his trainers and doctors pleading with him to rethink. As a fighter, you deserve whatever outcome is to befall you in the ring.

  15. Hank was a great player and because he passed away at his peak he will always be remembered. He will be remember as the guy who almost led Loyola to a championship.

  16. When I saw Muhmmad Ali come back from his retierment, I felt terrible for him. It must have been so hard to realize that you're fading away. He was an excellent boxer, and I would have loved to see that fight when they were both in their prime.

    1. i agree with everything you said except for the watching the fight part. ali would have have killed homes in that fight. he was waaaayyy to quick for him

    2. I agree, that match would have been awesome if they were both in their prime. I do believe that its really hard to see your own self fade away due to time. That must have been really rough.

  17. most memorable scene in the Hank Gathers film was when he collapsed and died on the court. just the silence and shock in the gym from all the people was saddening. its even more sad when that person was your idol, and for most people he was.

  18. I defintely think that Muhammed Ali was one of the best boxers of al, but the fight againist Holmes was embarrising and should of never happenned.

    2. i agree with both of you and for that reason that he thinks he was the best and that is why it was hard for him to give up and just quit.

  19. Both Hank and Ali should have retired. Hank should have retired when he had his little break he never should have came back because if he didnt he might still be alive, but he whould have that regret that he didnt fulfill his carrer.and Ali should have retired once he realized he wasnt ass good as he was and knew he was getting sick, because if he did he whouldnt have gotten a beating like he got.

  20. what really bothered me about the ali flim was that everybody saw that he was wearing down and didnt do anything about it. the man went from being a loud outspoken man to a guy that could barley speak loud enough for you to hear him.its really messed up that the people around him let him get beat up like that.

  21. I was particularly impacted by the way in which Muhammad Ali looked before the fight. He was already slurring his words and looking like a fractured remnant of his former glory. Regardless of his sorry state, he still went on with the fight because that's all he knew. This film acts as a sort of awareness campaign for athletes to know when they need to retire. It's happened too many times to the greatest players: Mays, Mantle, Namath, Favre. Players who go on too long and soon become obscured in the shadows of their past.

  22. i think if Ali would have died at the peak of his career like Hank everything would have gone alot better for him and would have keeped on fighting to stay as the best there is.

  23. I think that Muhammad Ali was one of those guys who tried to push the fame and also tried to push forward. That's why his body started to break down at such a young age. Since he did all of that at a young age he is now well-known by millions of people.

  24. I think that Ali should of quit when he wasn't as quick and as good as he was before. Then he wouldn't of gotten all of that beating he got.
